Classics@21: The Kyklos Project

Kyklos is a program devoted to new and developing scholarship concerning the Greek Epic Cycle. Its primary purpose is to foster a new generation of classical scholars by offering them, at an early stage in their academic careers, an opportunity to test their ideas in an international environment.

The program consists of graduate students and early career scholars (up to 7 years from the reception of their PhD) under the supervision of scholars coming from the international community of academics specializing in the Homeric and cyclic poems. The aim is to produce essays, notes, or comments on aspects of the corpus of the Greek Epic Cycle, including its interface with other genres and disciplines. Every two years the Center for Hellenic Studies hosts a virtual conference, during which students are joined to present their work. The participation of supervisors as discussants to each student’s/scholar’s paper creates a dynamic, intergenerational dialogue. Records of these dialogues are then published here as issues of the Kyklos volume of Classics@.

How to Join Kyklos

Since the Kyklos project is biennial, prospective participants should observe the Call for Participation in Klykos advertised in autumn every two years. An advisory committee of editors contributes to the final assessment of each essay, which authors can then choose to have published online by the CHS.

For registration and further information, please contact the project coordinator Efimia Karakantza (Associate Professor of Ancient Greek Literature, University of Patras, and Fellow in Ancient Greek Literature, Center for Hellenic Studies) at ekarakant@chs.harvard.edu.
